Before you start
- Have the physical ticket in front of you. Not a photograph, not a memorised number. Digits get transposed, and the ticket is the instrument of any claim.
- Do not write on it, fold it heavily or laminate it. A damaged or altered ticket creates problems at claim time.

- Check after the draw, not during it. Any "result" published before the draw has taken place is fabricated.
The method, step by step
- Read the draw identification on your ticket. The lottery name, the draw code and the draw date are printed together. This tells you which result sheet you need.
- Go to the official department site. Type the address or use a saved bookmark. Do not arrive via a search result promising "live results" — that is how people end up on imitation sites.
- Open the result sheet for that exact draw. Match the code and the date. If either differs from your ticket, you have the wrong sheet.
- Start at the top and work down. First prize, consolation, then each successive tier. Read the matching rule printed for each tier before comparing.
- Compare your ticket number carefully. Digit by digit, out loud if it helps. Most "near misses" are misreadings.
- Confirm against the gazette. The gazette notification is the authoritative version of the result and is what governs a claim.
- Keep the ticket safe either way. Until you have checked every tier against the gazette, do not discard anything.
Check every tier, not just the top
A Kerala result sheet is not one number. It is a ladder of prize tiers, and the matching rule is different at different levels. The top tiers require a full ticket-number match. Further down, several tiers are decided on the last four digits of the number, which means a very large number of tickets win something in those tiers.
This is where prizes get thrown away. Someone scans the first prize, sees no match, and bins the ticket — while the last four digits sat in a lower tier the whole time. If you take one thing from this page, take this: read to the bottom of the sheet every time.

Checking an older draw
Result sheets are archived, so an older draw can be checked the same way — you just need the right identification. If a ticket has lost its date but retains a legible code, the draw number itself will place it: weekly draws increment once a week, so counting back from a known draw gets you to within a few days. Fake result pages and fee demands
Lottery results attract fraud because the audience is large, motivated and in a hurry. Two patterns dominate.
Fabricated result pages. Sites that publish a plausible-looking sheet, sometimes before the draw has even taken place, to capture search traffic. The tells are the usual ones — no source named, no timestamp, a layout that does not match the official sheet, and a page wrapped in aggressive advertising. Fee demands. A message, call or email saying you have won and asking for a payment to release the prize. This is always fraud. Prizes are claimed by presenting a physical ticket through the official process; nobody contacts you first, and no legitimate step in the process requires you to send money to receive money. If you have already paid, stop, keep the records and report it.
Checking without the internet
Not everyone checks online, and the offline routes are perfectly valid. Results are published in newspapers, displayed at licensed agents' counters, and available through the department's own channels. Agents will check a ticket for you — but the ticket stays in your hand, and a final confirmation against the official sheet or gazette is still the step that matters.
A small practical note: newspaper listings are typeset by hand and occasionally carry misprints. They are a reasonable first look and a poor final authority.
If your ticket matches
Do three things in order. Verify against the gazette, not just the first sheet you saw. Secure the physical ticket — undamaged, unsigned unless the process requires it, stored somewhere safe. Then follow the official claim route for the tier you have won, which differs between smaller prizes payable through agents and larger ones handled through banks and the department.
